A bus stop with a green roof has been transformed into an informative and educational public space

The initiative is of Future world association and Serendipity Foundation and the project is implemented by volunteers, with the assistance of Tryavna Municipality and the financial support of the Bulgarian Fund for Women and the European Solidarity Corps programme. The completely renovated old bus stop has both an educational and environmental purpose. It is the beginning of the organizers’ idea to create informative and educational public spaces. Information boards on air pollution, composting, etc. have been placed on the bus stop, and there is space for specially designed brochures on environmental topics, which will be updated periodically, according to Margarita Simeonova, the project’s main organizer and a municipal councillor.

The “Fresh Air” bus stop was opened at the end of October and the event was accompanied by a lecture on “Air Pollution”, with guest speakers Borislav Sandov – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Water in the last regular cabinet and experts from the environmental association “For the Earth”.

Green roofs, considered the lungs of modern cities, are among the most effective means of filtering fine particulate matter and converting CO2 into oxygen. To put it another way, the green roof donated by Innova Top Green is at its most usual place when it comes to public initiatives for air purification and aesthetic environment.

Here is the place to recall that another project by Innova Top Green for a bus stop shelter with a green roof became the winner of an award in the category “Elements for Urban Environment” in the ARCHINOVA 2022 contest. The model shed with a green roof is awaiting approval from the Architecture and Urban Planning Department of Sofia Municipality.
